Method
- Equipment: Cast iron skillet or griddle, burger press or sturdy spatula, metal spatula, cutting board, chef’s knife.
- Prep Time: 10 minutes
- Cook Time: 12 minutes
- Total Time: 22 minutes
Prepare the Beef (5 minutes):
- Divide the ground beef into eight loosely packed 4-ounce balls. Avoid overworking the meat so the burgers stay tender and juicy.
Heat the Skillet (3 minutes):
- Heat a cast iron skillet or griddle over medium-high heat until very hot. Brush the cooking surface with Garden Infuzions Burger Infused Olive Oil.
Smash and Season (2 minutes):
- Place two or three beef balls onto the hot surface. Immediately smash each ball into a thin patty using a burger press or sturdy spatula. Season with kosher salt and black pepper.
Cook the Burgers (8 minutes):
- Cook for about 2 minutes, until the edges are crispy and a deep brown crust forms. Flip once, immediately top each patty with cheese, and cook 1 to 2 minutes more until melted.
Assemble and Serve (4 minutes):
- Butter and toast the brioche buns. Stack two patties per bun and top with lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, and burger sauce. Serve immediately.

Notes
For the crispiest smash burgers, avoid pressing the patties more than once. Allow the hot cooking surface to develop the crust before flipping. Burger Infused Olive Oil also makes an excellent finishing drizzle over roasted potatoes or grilled vegetables served alongside the burgers.
