Ingredients

Ingredients
  • 1 1/2 pounds ground beef 80/20
  • 2 tablespoons Steakhouse Infused Olive Oil Blend
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 small yellow onion thinly sliced
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 4 slices sharp cheddar cheese
  • 4 burger buns split and toasted
  • 1 large tomato sliced
  • 4 leaves butter lettuce
  • 4 dill pickle slices
  • 2 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon ketchup

Equipment

  • 1 Large mixing bowl For mixing and shaping the burger patties
  • 1 Cast Iron Skillet or Grill For cooking the burgers and onions
  • 1 Spatula For flipping patties
  • 1 Knife For slicing onion and tomato
  • 1 Cutting board For prep work

Method

Instructions
  1. 1. In a medium bowl, combine the ground beef, Steakhouse Infused Olive Oil Blend, kosher salt, and black pepper until just mixed. Divide into 4 equal portions and shape into patties slightly wider than the buns.
  2. 2. Heat a skillet or grill over medium-high heat. If using a skillet, add the butter and cook the onion slices until soft and caramelized at the edges, about 8 to 10 minutes. Move the onions aside and keep warm.
  3. 3. Cook the patties for 3 to 5 minutes on the first side, then flip and cook 2 to 4 minutes more, depending on thickness and desired doneness. Top each patty with cheddar during the last minute so it melts.
  4. 4. Toast the buns cut-side down until golden. Spread mayonnaise on the bottom buns and ketchup on the top buns if using.
  5. 5. Build each burger with lettuce, tomato, a cheeseburger patty, caramelized onions, and pickles. Cap with the top bun and serve right away.

Notes

For the best texture, avoid overworking the beef when mixing. If you want extra smoky flavor, cook the patties on a charcoal grill and finish with the cheddar during the last minute. The caramelized onions can be made ahead and warmed just before serving.

Recipe Tips

Make the patties slightly wider than the buns since they’ll tighten as they cook. Press a small dimple into the center of each patty to help them stay even on the grill or skillet. Let the burgers rest for a few minutes before stacking so the juices stay where you want them.

Serving Suggestions

Serve these burgers with oven fries, potato wedges, coleslaw, or a big chopped salad. They also fit right in with grilled corn, pickles, and a tray of sliced tomatoes for an easy backyard spread.

Storage

Store cooked burger patties in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat gently in a skillet over low heat or in the oven until warmed through. Keep the buns and toppings separate until serving for the best texture.

Variations

Try Swiss cheese and sautéed mushrooms for a bistro-style twist, or swap in pepper jack and roasted peppers for a little extra kick. You can also serve the patties bunless over greens or tuck them into toasted slider buns for a smaller party platter.
